Anwar and the Wolf is a visual and musical story about boundaries, for everyone from 8 to 108 years old. During the Christmas holidays, the Tryater building will be transformed into a magical and borderless space. At every performance, there’s something different to see, eat, and experience for all ages. Listen to live music from different cultures, enjoy world cuisine, learn to animate like in the performance, and experience tea ceremonies in an international atmosphere in the cozy and mystical foyer.

Anwar is a boy who has been wandering through Europe for a while, looking for shelter. One evening, he suddenly comes face to face with a hungry wolf. To save himself, Anwar starts telling the wolf stories. About his home, his journey, and his family. The primarily Dutch-language performance also features Frisian, Arabic, and other languages, but is accessible and understandable to everyone. For example, Dutch and English subtitles are available via smart glasses.

Tryater explores the boundaries between language, music and image with Anwar and the Wolf. In this multidisciplinary performance (language no problem) an actor, a musician and a performing visual artist tell the story of the young Anwar who has left his home country.

Of course, you can only see the performance in our theater. But afterward feel free to come listen, taste, and learn in the foyer. There’s live music, snacks, or full dinners, and creative types can learn to animate, just like in Anwar and the Wolf. The program varies by performance date. Nearly all activities are free and take place after the performance. But you’re also welcome to enjoy a drink in our cozy foyer beforehand. Reservations are required for the Yalda and Mezze afternoon and the Surinamese and Ukrainian evening. You can make your reservation here.
