De Oare Kant

Oerol Festival Terschelling

A physical and visual trip at Oerol Terschelling

A woman whose partner comes out as gay after a long relationship is left in despair. While he rediscovers himself and blossoms, she tries to grasp the question of what their union actually meant. In a physical and visual journey, the performance delves into the inner world of her, the one left behind. Amidst the shadows of the past, memories, and repressed desires, two characters search for a new narrative through dance and language.

Creator Romke Gabe Draaijer’s performance is the last in his trilogy about the search and yearning for self-expression that men can experience when they come out (Pinocchio Lost Time and Morphosis were previously created during his talent development program at Tryater). Like the other installments, it was developed based on interviews. Nynke Heeg (a.o. Foekje, Fanfare) plays the lead role. Her lyrics flow seamlessly into a powerful and unique interplay with Singaporean waacking dancer Amin Alifin.

Waacking is a dance style that developed in the underground queer club scene of Los Angeles in the 1970s and is characterized by stylish arm movements, striking poses and self-expression.
