You sit next to each other in class every day. But what is going on in the other person’s mind?
The chair next to Sem has been empty for more than four months, because his friend Abe no longer comes to school.
After a hot summer, in which they sat next to the lake instead of swimming in it because of blue-green algae, Sem and Abe ended up in a new class. Sem really enjoyed it. But Abe, such a cheerful boy and in Sem’s eyes actually perfect, became increasingly quiet. Until he stayed away and the friends only texted. Sem doesn’t really know what to say. Abe always says that everything is fine.
Abe’s parents and teachers ask Sem to talk to Abe about it. But how? How do you talk to each other about difficult things when you normally only talk about food and music? Sem wonders whether Abe is really interested. And what does he really know about him, and who are those new friends that Abe texts about? When Sem tries to help his friend, everything is turned upside down because he discovers a secret of Abe’s. Their friendship is put to the test. But then Abe sends the message that he is coming back to school. What will they say to each other?
Loft is a funny and imaginative performance about needing breathing space, clouds in your head and keeping in touch when that becomes difficult. A current theme: a growing number of young people in Fryslân are at home for a long time for all kinds of reasons. What if you are unable to connect for a while?
Practical information
The performance is played in the classroom and lasts two lessons. The performance is played in the first lesson and an interactive discussion takes place in the second lesson. This discussion is led by an educational employee of Tryater.
