A visual performance in the open-air swimming pool of Bakkeveen, where bathers and swimming clubs share the water with professional actors
A retired swimming teacher (played by Joke Tjalsma) stands on the diving board. She looks out over the swimming pool she has been visiting all her life. She sees a little girl, panicking because she has lost her father. A teenage girl gets her first kiss behind the chip shop. A young mother feels how much her body has changed after having two children. And a woman in her forties swims lengths fanatically: what is she trying to wash away?
During an ordinary day at the swimming pool, an extraordinary life passes us by. In the pool water, everything becomes liquid: time and identity, what we find important, what we left behind and what we dream of.

- Swimbad is suitable for audiences aged 12 and over
- Both Frisian and Dutch are spoken in Swimbad. Dutch subtitling is available (news ticker)
- English subtitles available (smart glasses). Choose the ‘ticket+smart glasses’
- If the performance is cancelled due to bad weather, it may be rescheduled on the following Sunday- or Monday-evening. Tickets are valid for the relevant rescheduled date.
